Utility Licence Update


We have made minor updates to the current utility licences. The update removes provisions relating to technical regulations that are now covered under the Utilities (Technical Regulation) Act 2014 (UTR Act) from the utility licence and reduces regulatory duplication and reporting burden on licensed utilities. The update also improves the clarity of the licence conditions. The update ensures that licence conditions are accurate, current and reflect our legislative objectives.

Final decision - Utility Licence Update

On Tuesday 9 February 2021, the Commission released its final decision on updating utility licences. The licence updates achieve three main objectives:

Following notification on the ACT Legislation website, the updated licences will commence on 1 March 2021.

Utility licence update – informal public consultation

On Monday 9 November 2020, we released a consultation paper on the utility licence update. The consultation paper informed stakeholders of the proposed updates to the licences and invited public feedback. We received a submission from Icon Water.
