Final report: Retail electricity price investigation 2020 - 24

On 5 June 2020, the Commission released the final report and price direction for standing offer prices for the supply of electricity to small customers on ActewAGL’s regulated tariffs from 1 July 2020. The final report also sets out the Commission’s recommendations to improve the transparency and comparability in the ACT retail electricity market.

Public Hearing: Retail electricity price investigation 2020 - 24

As part of the Commission’s retail electricity price investigation, the Commission held a public hearing at 2pm on Thursday, 5 March 2020 at the Canberra Museum and Gallery, Cnr. London Circuit and Civic Square, Canberra City ACT 2601.

Draft report: Retail electricity price investigation 2020 - 24

On 4 February 2020, the Commission released a draft report and proposed price direction for standing offer prices for the supply of electricity to small customers on ActewAGL’s regulated tariffs from 1 July 2020. The draft report also sets out the Commission’s draft recommendations to improve the transparency and comparability in the ACT retail electricity market.

As part of the investigation the Commission engaged Frontier Economics to provide advice on setting the contracting position which is used in the calculation of wholesale electricity purchase costs. A copy of Frontier Economics’ report is available below.

The Commission surveyed ACT electricity consumers as part of its investigation into the comparability and transparency of electricity offers. The survey results are available below.

Release of Issues Paper: Electricity price investigation

On Monday, 2 September 2019, the Commission released an issues paper outlining its approach to the 2020-24 electricity price investigation.

Commission receives terms of reference to determine retail electricity prices from 1 July 2020

On 28 May 2019, the Commission received a terms of reference from the Treasurer to determine a price direction for standing offer prices for the supply of electricity to small customers who consume less than 100 MWh of electricity over any period of 12 consecutive months. The price direction will be for the period 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2024.

The Terms of Reference also require the Commission to consider whether changes could be made in the Territory to promote improved transparency and comparability of electricity price offers.
